A new book in the series ‘Coastal British Columbia Stories’ has been
released by Powell River Books. Local author, Wayne Lutz, introduced this series with ‘Up the Lake’ in 2005, followed annually by additional titles that feature the Powell River region. All of the
books focus on the people and places along BC’s Sunshine Coast.
Using a travelogue memoir format, Lutz has tackled a variety of topics involving our local region, where everything is affected by the rugged geography. In the latest book in this series, ‘Beyond the Main,’ Powell River serves as the focal point for exploration of our area’s backcountry.
“I’ve concentrated on capturing the lifestyles of our locality,
where people tend to be particularly self-reliant,” says Lutz. “My
latest book continues in that theme. When you travel the streets of
Powell River, it’s a common sight to see quads in pickup trucks or
loaded on a trailer, headed out of town. Where are all of these
all-terrain vehicles going? And what is the attraction of this intense
recreational sport? In the spirit of traveling off the beaten track,
local residents return again and again to the sublime beauty of places where the mountains drop into the sea.”
‘Beyond the Main’ will be available at local bookstores on May 24th.
