Exploring the Salish Sea: An Artist’s View, featuring pen and ink drawings by award-winning California artist Margy Gates, captures in pictures the Salish Sea, the unique inland sea comprised of Puget Sound, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Georgia Strait, and surrounding areas. The work focuses on the region’s flora, fauna and native culture. In its pages you’ll find her exquisite renderings of some of the region’s iconic sea life, such as salmon, orcas, and snow geese, as well as less commonly seen creatures. Text by Anacortes authors Don Douglass and Réanne Hemingway-Douglass, emphasizes the beauty of the region as well as the need to protect its marine resources. The Douglasses are authors have cruised the waters of the Salish Sea for many years and are authors of a series of nautical guidebooks.
