Chicago Review Press acquires Bright Ideas for Learning series titles effective July 1, 2017

CHICAGO, IL, July 1, 2017—Chicago Review Press Incorporated, the parent company of Chicago Review Press (CRP, www.chicagoreviewpress.com) and national distributor Independent Publishers Group (IPG, www.ipgbook.com), has acquired all 11 titles in the Bright Ideas for Learning series, originally published by Bright Ring Publishing, Inc. The acquisition will go into effect on July 1, 2017.

Bright Ring Publishing, Inc. (www.brightring.com) was founded in 1985 by author, publisher and educational consultant MaryAnn F. Kohl. That year, MaryAnn published her first book of independent art experiences for children titled Scribble Cookies. Since then, MaryAnn has been writing and publishing art resource books for children, parents and teachers as part of her award-winning Bright Ideas for Learning series. She discovered her passion for children’s creative art when she began teaching primary grades, kindergarten enrichment and college-level art education courses, and consulting with teachers, parents and librarians around the world.

Chicago Review Press publisher Cynthia Sherry will oversee the acquisition and IPG will continue to distribute, now under CRP, all new and backlist Bright Ideas for Learning titles. IPG will distribute the following titles: Discovering Great Artists, Action Art, Great American Artists for Kids, Science Arts, Storybook Art, Good Earth Art, Scribble Art, Mudworks, Mudworks Bilingual Edition, Math Arts, and Making Make-Believe. CRP will not be taking on any Bright Ring staff with the acquisition of Bright Ideas for Learning. MaryAnn F. Kohl will continue her work as a parent educator, author, literary agent and education and publishing consultant.

Founded in Chicago in 1973, Chicago Review Press has grown into a dynamic midsize publisher with more than 900 titles in print. CRP publishes a wide range of subjects including history, biography, memoir, music, film and travel, among others, as well as an award-winning line of children’s activity books and young adult biographies. The press currently publishes about 70 new titles annually under six imprints: Chicago Review Press, Lawrence Hill Books, Ball Publishing, Zephyr Press, Academy Chicago Publishers and Parenting Press. All Chicago Review Press titles are distributed to the book trade by Independent Publishers Group. The Bright Ideas for Learning series is CRP’s newest acquisition.
