June 13 -Writing in a Kindle World

In an increasingly crowded publishing world, it is easy to get lost in the two million books put out each year. How will readers find you? One way is to get connected with a best-selling author on the Kindle World platform. Janet Oakley will talk about her experience writing in Toby Neal’s Kindle World and how it’s positively impacted the sale of her historical fiction. She’ll talk about how KW works, how you can choose a world that works for you and why it’s a good way to stretch your writing skills while gaining new readers.

Award-winning author J.L. Oakley writes historical fiction that spans the mid-19th century to WW II with characters standing up for something in their own time and place as well as cozy mysteries set in Hawaii. Her writing has been recognized with a 2013 Bellingham Mayor’s Arts Award, the 2013 Chanticleer Grand Prize, the 2014 First Place Chaucer Award and the 2015 WILLA Silver Award. Foraying into a Kindle World introduced her work to new readers as well stretched her writing in a new genre.  This coming fall, she will be presenting at the PNWA on putting history into mysteries. When not writing, she demonstrates 19th-century folkways.
